Kelantan food delivery riders not interested in protesting

KOTA BARU: Kelantan food delivery riders have no interest in holding a protest demanding for better work compensation.

Many when interviewed said they did not face any problem related to work, unlike those faced by riders in other states.

A Grab food rider who wanted to be known as Amin said he was aware of the strike by riders from other areas, including the Klang Valley.

"My friend who is also a food delivery rider in the Klang Valley informed me there was a strike planned by riders in his vicinity.

"I'm not sure whether the strike went according to plan or not, because l have no interest in it," said the 23-year-old who is from Kota Baru.

His friend, who only wanted to be identified as Muaazim, said both Grab food and foodpanda riders in the state had no plan to follow in their footsteps.

"Praise be to God. We (the food delivery riders) in Kelantan do not face problems like them," he said.

The 27-year-old from Pasir Pekan said he believed the riders have their own reasons to hold the protest.

It was reported that food delivery riders had taken part in a protest in 10 locations in the Klang Valley to demand for better work compensation.

The 24-hour protest, which started at midnight today, followed a viral message on social media about a poster titled "Mogok! Rider Grab Se-Malaysia" ("Strike! Grab food delivery riders in Malaysia") since Thursday.

Food delivery riders were reported to have converged at 10 meeting points in the city centre, Putrajaya and other parts of the Klang Valley to join a convoy heading to the Grab headquarters in Petaling Jaya, to hand over of a memo and notice of demand to the company.

It was believed that the strike was planned following allegations of unfair compensation paid to the food delivery riders.
