ALOR STAR: Aman Central Mall, the organisers of the 2022 Kedah Fashion Week (KFW22), today issued an apology over the appearance of a guest who was dressed inappropriately at the event.
The photos of the unidentified guest have gone viral since yesterday.
The guest had on a green blazer with its buttons open, with the chest and abdomen left exposed by what appeared to be a see-through shirt underneath the outerwear.
In a statement, the mall's management acknowledged that the viral photo was that of a guest at KFW22 and stressed that it did not "reflect the image they sought to promote."
"A viral photo of a guest during the 2022 Kedah Fashion Week (KFW22) who was dressed inappropriately, did not reflect the image we're seeking to promote.
"We wish to clarify that the management had advised all guests to dress appropriately. We would like to apologise for having missed out in the screening process of the guests at the event.
"We take this opportunity to take action and reinforce our procedures to prevent similar incidents from happening again," it said.
Aman Central clarified that the event was not related to the Kedah state government and it was an annual event at the mall which has been organised since 2016.
"The purpose of KFW22 was to increase tenant sales, allowing them to showcase their latest collections and revive the Malaysian fashion industry. At the same time, we want to provide an avenue for local and international designers to market their products here.
"We at Aman Central want to confirm that we have applied for all permits. We are grateful for the overwhelming support during the entire 2022 Kedah Fashion Week.
"Once again, we wholeheartedly apologise for causing any offence that upset the people."
Photos of the unidentified guest created an uproar on social media.
Yesterday evening, state Health and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Dr Mohd Hayati Othman said the Kedah government would take action against the organisers.
Dr Mohd Hayati said the organisers would be summoned to explain the matter.
