Najib undertakes 'sumpah laknat' to deny involvement in abuse of SRC funds

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak tonight swore an oath (sumpah laknat) at the Kampung Baru Mosque, here, denying involvement in the misappropriation of SRC International Sdn Bhd funds.

In his oath, Najib said until today, he did not know specifically, or otherwise, that the RM42 million came from SRC, whether directly or indirectly.

"Secondly, I never set up or agreed to set up SRC for the purpose of amassing any funds for my personal use or for my family.

"Thirdly, I never directed any board member or officers from SRC to misappropriate any SRC funds into my bank account for whatever reason.

"Fourthly, I was never involved in a Cabinet meeting for the purpose of approving government guarantees for Kumpulan Wang Persaraan Diperbadankan (KWAP) loans amounting to RM4 billion to SRC for me to acquire illegal gains amounting to RM42 million," he said.

Earlier, Najib and his son, Nor Ashman Najib arrived at the mosque at 8.20pm before they were joined by his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor some 20 minutes later.

Najib joined the congregants of the mosque to perform Isyak prayer with several Umno leaders including Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan and Kelantan Umno liaison committee chairman Datuk Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub.

After the Isyak prayer, the Pekan member of Parliament and congregants performed 'solat hajat' and recited 'doa munajat'. This was followed by Najib undertaking the oath.

The 'solat hajat' and 'doa munajat' were held with regard to Najib's final SRC appeal at the Federal Court which will continue tomorrow.
