MERSING: Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Special Functions) Datuk Dr Abdul Latiff Ahmad has proposed that the Civil Defence Force Special Team (Paspa) be absorbed into the Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (Smart) to improve their skills.
He said the proposal was made as Paspa had experience in dealing with disasters and emergencies.
"Knowledge and skills that are constantly improved and supported by technology are key to Paspa's success in dealing with dynamic and complex disaster situations.
"Therefore, their service scheme should be similar to that enjoyed by other elite teams."
Latiff said this after the closing ceremony of Paspa's skills training programme in Pantai Air Papan here today.
Present was Malaysia Civil Defence Force chief commissioner Aminurrahim Mohamed.
Latiff said he had instructed Amirnurrahim to place Paspa in a class of its own and be recognised as an elite team.
"I believe a comprehensive plan has been drawn up, and the Civild Defence Force is ready to take steps to organise, complete, streamline and improve Paspa's capabilities.
"In this regard, I call on Paspa members not to feel inferior because you have the same potential and opportunities as other elite teams." – BERNAMA
