PASIR MAS: Mohamad Merdeka Che Soh has not been particularly observant of the National Day celebrations in the past five years.
But the former SMK Tendong teacher said a recent article about an acquaintance, who shares his namesake, made him think otherwise.
"I don't really remember him, this other 'Merdeka'. We probably met during the 50th National Day.
"And I had read about him in the New Straits Times. He wanted to gather all the other 14 Merdeka.
"I have yet to receive any invitation but am looking forward to the call," said Mohamad Merdeka when met at his home in Kampung Slow Machang here today.
Mohamad Merdeka who retired in 2017 is also looking forward to celebrate his 65th birthday which falls on Aug 31.
"Over the past five years, l only held a simple birthday celebration with my family and close relatives.
"I must admit that I really miss the moments (to take part in National Day celebrations).
"Although l don't get invited to attend National Day celebrations nowadays, it will never dampen my spirit to organise my own celebration," said the father of six.
The NST recently reported a plan by one Mohd Merdeka Ismail to reconnect with 14 of his friends who share the same name.
Mohd Merdeka said they had first met in 2007 during the "Anak-Anak Merdeka" gathering.
