KUALA LUMPUR: Three Malaysian medical students from UCSI University have been selected to undergo high-impact research at the Harvard School's Brigham and Women's Hospital in the United States from Sept 15.
According to UCSI University's statement today, the three Malaysian female students Fiona Ho Jing Min, Clarice Siow Jing Rou and Ngu Hui Ling from its Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences will conduct year-long research related to the factors that cause aldosterone changes and the effects on the human body.
They were selected under the university's Star Trek programme, read the statement.
"Since 2014, a total of 14 UCSI University medical students have been selected through the Star Trek programme to conduct high-impact research at Harvard.
"Under the programme, UCSI University students are selected by the world's best universities including Harvard University, Imperial College London, The University of Chicago, Tsinghua University, The University of British Columbia and The University of Queensland in various disciplines to participate in their high-impact research," it added.
According to Ho, 22, the focus of their research is to understand the hormonal mechanisms associated with cardiovascular disease, which is the leading cause of death worldwide.
Siow, 21, said she hoped that the research can help people to enjoy their life better while Ngu, 21, noted that she intended to publish research papers that will be beneficial for future generations. -- Bernama
