Queen showcases batik-colouring skills at Galeri Prima [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah today demonstrated her batik-colouring techniques at the New Straits Times Press art gallery, Galeri Prima, here.

In conjunction with the 8th Asean Traditional Textile Symposium, Her Majesty's visit included 150 delegations from 13 countries participating in the biennial event, namely Indonesia, Laos, Singapore, Canada, the Netherlands and Cambodia.

Media Prima Bhd (MPB) group chairman Datuk Seri Dr Syed Hussian Aljunid, deputy managing director Datuk Michael Chan and Galeri Prima director Azlynn Azi were present to welcome the queen.

Today's visit included Her Majesty showcasing her exclusive artworks through the Synthesis exhibition held at the gallery last month, aside from demonstrating batik-colouring techniques on her exclusive work-in-progress collections to the delegates.

Tunku Azizah's artworks include block-printed batik, which is one of the oldest traditional batik-making techniques.

Galeri Prima is the first private art gallery that Tunku Azizah has consented to showcase her exclusive works.

Earlier today, Her Majesty wrapped up the symposium and passed down the symbolic symposium flag to Laos as the next host for the event, which is scheduled to take place in 2024.

Organised by Yayasan Tenun Pahang Diraja, the current event held from Sept 25 to Sept 30 is also supported by Museum Pahang, Galeri Prima, Media Prima Omnia, Kraftangan Malaysia, the National Academy of Arts, Culture and Heritage (Aswara Malaysia); Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), Prison Department and Kuala Lumpur World Trade Centre.

It was officiated by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah on Sept 26.
