Two Malaysians among five drowned in Golok river

KOTA BARU: Two Malaysians were among five people killed in separate drowning incidents along the Kelantan-Thai border since early this year.

Narathiwat Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department operations chief Lieutenant Muhaday Nithatnawaday Chakul said the other three were Thai nationals.

He said the five had drowned in the Sungai Golok along the border and the incidents occured separately between January to August this year.

The two Malaysian victims, a man and a woman, perished in the Buketa and Mundok areas.

"Since early this year, my department recorded a total of five drowning cases.

"All the cases happened in the Sungai Golok which separates Thailand and Malaysia in Kelantan," he said.

Muhaday added that rescue operations were jointly carried out with their counterpart in Kelantan.
