MIC veep blames secretary for boo boo on 'free Najib' resolution

KUALA LUMPUR: The brouhaha caused by an alleged resolution to free former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak during MIC's general assembly was due to a misinterpreted speech.

MIC vice-president Datuk T. Mohan said his secretary had misinterpreted a speech made during the 76th MIC Annual General Assembly on Monday.

He said the person responsible had apologised for the glitch.

"My secretary has issued an apology and hopes that media outlets could retract their previous reports on the matter.

"Najib's concerns and contributions for the Indian community during his tenure as the prime minister can never be denied.

"However, MIC respects the legal process and we hope that he will get his justice in accordance with the country's law," he posted on Facebook.

Meanwhile, MIC Women's deputy chief Vickneswari Babuji stressed that the party only passed one resolution on Monday's general assembly.

The resolution was aimed at enabling MIC president Tan Sri S.A. Vigneswaran and the party's Central Working Committee to make the necessary preparations for GE15.

The party came under fire after a news outlet carried a report on the issue and it became viral.

However, the report was subsequently taken down upon clarification by MIC that no resolution on Najib had been passed.
