KUALA LUMPUR: The Federal Territories Ministry has been restructured into the Federal Territories Department.
Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali said the department would be under the purview of the Prime Minister's Department.
In a Facebook post today, Zuki said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had been briefed by the department's director-general Datuk Seri Rosida Jaafar on the restructuring.
"After the briefing, the prime minister and I attended the Majlis Interaksi Wilayah Persekutuan. This event is a platform for the top management of the Federal Territories Department and members of parliament to discuss critical issues and the implementation of development policies for the people, particularly in the Federal Territories."
The Federal Territories Ministry was first formed 43 years ago, in 1979.
The ministry was in charge of overseeing the administration and development of the three Federal Territories in Malaysia: Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan.
Several agencies were also incorporated into the ministry. These include the Federal Territories Lands and Mines Office, Kampung Baru Development Corporation and the Federal Territories Sports Council.
After being sworn in as prime minister, Anwar did away with the Federal Territories Ministry after promising to form a leaner cabinet.
