SANDAKAN: A total of 105 houses were reported to have either collapsed or sustained heavy damages after waves struck them during a high tide phenomenon at two villages in Sandakan last night.
In the incident around 10.30pm, over 200 victims were reported to be affected in Kampung Forest and Kampung Tinusa Dua.
A spokesman for the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department Operations Centre in a statement this morning said an estimated 100 houses in Kampung Forest were affected.
He adds another 500 homes in the village also faced threat from the natural phenomenon.
"Five houses collapsed in Kampung Tinusa Dua and 20 other homes also faced threat.
"However, no one was reported injured in the incident," he said.
Meanwhile, a spokesman for the Sabah Civil Defence Force (APM) said the incident involved over 200 victims from 96 families.
"All victims are being housed at the SMK Sungai Anib Dua flood relief centre".
"A breakdown of the victims is yet to be ascertained as the evacuation process is still underway," he said
