Rompin enters 4th day of floods with 323 at relief centres

KUANTAN: The flood situation in Rompin which enters the fourth day today begins to show improvement with only three relief centres still operating.

As of 9am today, the relief centre at Bandar Perwira Jaya community hall which began operations on Jan 24 was closed after its remaining seven victims from two families returned home.

A state Civil Defence Force spokesman said currently 323 people from 97 families were seeking shelter at the Kampung Setajam hall, Bukit Lepas hall and Kampung Rekoh multipurpose hall.

"There has been a slight increase in the number of victims at the Kampung Setajam hall compared to yesterday. The gloomy weather will continue as Rompin is expected to experience rain today and tomorrow," he said.

"The Sungai Keratong in Rompin water level reading remains above the 23m danger mark this morning when it recorded a water level of 24.79m," he said, adding that the water level at the river was 24.80m yesterday.

Rompin remains as the only district affected by floods in Pahang which hit the low-lying areas on Jan 24.
