PM's right to appoint Nurul Izzah, says Fadillah

KOTA BARU: It is Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's right to appoint his eldest daughter, Nurul Izzah, as his senior adviser on economic and finance matters.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said he believed the prime minister had his reasons for appointing Nurul Izzah to help him at the Prime Minister's Office and Finance Ministry.

"It is up to prime minister to appoint anyone he thinks is capable of the job.

"I will also get more details from the prime minister on the appointment.

"I will give my further comment on this issue after discussing it with him," said the plantation industries and commodities minister after visiting the Kelantan office of the National Kenaf and Tobacco Board here today.

Nurul Izzah, who is PKR vice-president and former Permatang Pauh member of parliament, had revealed her appointment to an English daily recently and said it took effect on Jan 3.

Anwar yesterday confirmed the appointment of his eldest daughter as his senior adviser after offering her the opportunity to assist him at the Prime Minister's Office and Finance Ministry.

He, however, said she would not be paid an allowance.
