SICC offers Menu Rahmah as part of Ramadan buffet

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) will offer Menu Rahmah in their "A Taste of Asian" Ramadan buffet next month.

Its chief executive officer, Datuk Rosmawati Lasuki, said Menu rahmah would be introduced during the Ramadan month from March 31 to April 21, from 5pm to midnight, and will offer basic dishes at RM5, RM10 and RM12.

"SICC initiates Rahmah Menu to provide affordable options for everyone to enjoy. Although the menu is inexpensive, we will prepare fresh dishes," Rosmawati said at SICC here today.

"The most important thing is because we want to promote the culture of Sabah muhibbah (goodwill).

"We want everyone to experience buka puasa (breaking of fast) together and experience the cultures of both Muslims and non-Muslims.

"We want everyone to enjoy the cuisines as we are showcasing Sabah as a haven for food," she said, adding that diners would be provided with a place to dine outside the promenade of the convention centre.

For the Ramadan buffet, priced at RM78 for children, RM118 for senior citizens and RM138 for adults, she said it would feature 700 dishes, which included traditional food and the Royal Malay cuisines of Kelantan and Pahang under their east-meet-west concept.

Rosmawati said: "The Ramadan buffet will be held in the Kinabatangan Hall, which can accommodate 3,000 people, but we will limit it to 1,500 people per night to provide sufficient room for social distancing as we are still mindful of the Covid-19."

The buffet will be held concurrently with the first Borneo Mega Raya Fest on April 7 to19 to showcase top fashion products and brands from Sabah, Sarawak, Brunei and Peninsular Malaysia.

Its organiser, Harris Babah, said celebrities like Datuk Aliff Syukri and wife, Wawa Zainal, Aril Zafril, Rozita Che Wan, Zain Saidin, Zarina Zainuddin and Bella Astillah were expected to showcase their products, and meet and greet their fans in Kota Kinabalu.

The Raya Fest would feature 79 booths with a stage at the centre for the vendors to promote their collections through a fashion show, he said.

He said the Raya Fest was planned so that Sabah and Sarawak folk, as well as those from Brunei, did not have to fly over to Kuala Lumpur to do their Hari Raya shopping as they would bring quality brands to SICC.

For the first time, he said they would also stage a stand-up comedy show.

"The highlight of the Raya Fest will be the fashion show and booths, which will open for 72 hours non-stop."
