JOHOR BARU: A father is appealing for members of the public who have witnessed or who have dashcam recording of the horrible accident that took the life of his two year-old son to come forward and aid in investigations so that the culprit can be caught and brought to justice.
Aizat Istamuel Amir Hamzah, 30, lost his only child Gibran Alfarizqi in the accident involving five vehicles at KM57.2 of the Senai-Desaru Highway near Bandar Penawar on Sunday evening (Feb 19).
A distraught Aizat said due to the recklessness and negligence of a driver, he and his wife Farida Kurnianingsih, 36, had lost their child.
"On Feb 19, at around 3.30pm to 4.30pm, we were involved in an accident along the Senai-Desaru highway heading towards Pasir Gudang. Gibran died and my wife is fighting for her life right now as she sustained serious injuries.
"Money, property, possessions can all be replaced. But my son, my one and only son, there is no replacement.
"The reckless, irresponsible driver took our dear son's life away from us. I hope the culprit who caused the accident realises this and takes responsibility," he said when contacted by Harian Metro here yesterday (Feb 20).
Aizat is appealing for help should anyone saw the accident or has dashcam footage to come forward and share vital information.
"Before the accident, I saw a black or dark vehicle overtaking too close from the opposite direction. The driver lost control, hitting our car and the one behind me.
"I'm appealing for help if there is anyone out there who witnessed the accident to come forward to the Kota Tinggi Police Station.
"On Saturday morning I took my wife and child to play on the beach in Desaru. Gibran was so happy and excited to play on the beach.
Meanwhile, Kota Tinggi District Police chief, Superintendent Hussin Zamora said that the cause of the accident was believed to be a botched overtaking manoeuvre.
"The vehicle's number plate is still unknown as all five vehicles lost control from trying to avoid hitting one another from opposite sides.
"Police are making efforts to find witnesses for the accident involving five vehicles that tragically resulted in Gibran Alfarizqi's death.
"Those who witnessed the accident are urged to come forward and get in touch with the investigating officer from the Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Division (BSPT) at the Kota Tinggi District Police Headquarters , Inspector Amirul Mustakim Mustaza at 017-479 3329 to aid in investigations," he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act of 1987.
On Sunday (Feb 19), two-year-old Gibran Alfarizqi died while seven others were injured as a result of the accident involving five vehicles – a Proton Pesona, a Honda CRZ, a Perodua Myvi, a Perodua Bezza and a Honda Insight.
