UiTM student's death: Father finds peace in forgiveness

DUNGUN: "As a Muslim, I forgive her," says Jamaluddin Hussin, 53, accepting the apology from the husband of the woman involved in the accident that claimed the life of his son, Khairul Anwar, 20, a student of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Dungun campus.

The incident happened in front of the campus in Kampung Sura Hujung on Wednesday.

Besides Khairul, two of his friends, Ku Adib Aizab Ku Azmi, 20, and Muhammad Akmal Md Tukirin, 25, who were also students at the same campus, died in the accident.

Jamaluddin said he and his family were still grieving the loss of their youngest son and were not ready to meet with the husband of the woman involved in the accident.

"I accept and am at peace with what has happened. I forgive her. If I don't, the grudge will never end.

"However, I will still take legal action to seek justice for my late son as it involves the loss of life," he said when contacted.

He said the loss of his youngest son had a profound impact on him, as all his sons had now passed away.

"I lost my eldest son, Muhammad Khairul Izzudin, seven years ago, and now my youngest. Losing them both is deeply saddening.

"Their mother, Norma Mohamed Nor, 52, is greatly affected by this loss. She was very close to our son and often holds his clothes to cope with her grief," he said.

Jamaluddin added that only those who had experienced the loss of a loved one could truly understand the sorrow of such a situation.

"Losing my youngest son is incredibly painful. This test feels even heavier, but I remain strong and accept this fate," he said.

Yesterday (Oct 11), NST reported that Azhar Ahmad, 53, apologised on behalf of his wife to all the families of the victims who died in the accident.

Azhar expressed hope that the victims' families could forgive his wife and that they would meet with the families when they are ready to accept the apology.

In the 7.20pm accident, a Honda CRV driven by a woman rammed into two motorcycles ridden by four students.

Another student, Muhammad Ammar Danish Mohamad Ridhuan, 20, sustained injuries to his waist and is receiving treatment at Dungun Hospital.

Police arrested the SUV driver, a 49-year-old woman, who is in remand for investigation.
