KOTA BARU: Only female artists who cover their aurat are allowed to perform in Kelantan.
State Youth, Sports and Non-Governmental Organisations Committee chairman Wan Roslan Wan Hamat said apart from dressing modestly, the performing artists should also adhere to the Islamic laws set by the state.
"The state government does not reject any sort of entertainment or prohibit female artists from performing here, as long as they do not expose their aurat, apart from being syariah-compliant.
"For example, we will organise an event called 'Gegey Gegok Anok Muda Kelate' next week.
"The programmes will include 'Girls Fun Run' and 'Ladies Night'. Three female artists (singers) will be performing.
"Many are aware about the Islamic laws adopted by the state government years ago," he told a press conference.
Those breaching the rules are liable to be fined up to RM1,000 and jailed up to six months or both under the Kelantan Syariah Criminal Enactment Code 1985.
Meanwhile on the programme, Wan Roslan said about 16,000 youths were expected to attend the event.
He said the programme would be held for two days beginning March 10.
