Selangor ruler urges mosques to get equipment to record, monitor religious lectures

KLANG: Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has ordered nazir (mosque administrators) to allocate mosque funds for the provision of equipment to record and monitor ceramah (religious lectures) at their mosques.

Sultan Sharafuddin said the mosque and its Qariah members would also benefit from having the equipment as ceramah could be broadcast live on many platforms, shared and referred to whenever needed.

He said mosques could function as information centres that provided data to religious agencies, such as Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais), Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais), Selangor Zakat Board and Social Welfare Department.

"Through the use of technology, Mais can monitor and review financial reports of mosques and surau online.

"This can prevent irregularities in the financial management of mosques and surau."

He said this in his speech before presenting letters of appointment to 1,256 imam and nazir at Istana Alam Shah today.

Present was Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah.

Sultan Sharafuddin advised imam and nazir to administer their mosques in an efficient, transparent and professional manner.

"Any decision made by nazir and the committee must be in accordance with the law and regulations, as well as my decree.

"Action will be taken against those who fail to comply with the rules."

Meanwhile, the ruler said any kuliah, ceramah and tazkirah (religious sermons) in mosques could be delivered only by those who had credentials issued by the Mais Credentials Committee.

The ruler said foreign speakers were allowed to deliver religious talks and sermons only at Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque (state mosque) in Shah Alam, Tengku Ampuan Jemaah Mosque in Bukit Jelutong, Sultan Sulaiman Royal Mosque in Klang and Raja Haji Fi Sabilillah Mosque in Cyberjaya.
