KUALA LUMPUR: Several videos and pictures of an old man being roughed up by Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) enforcement officers are making the rounds on social media.
Netizens have expressed outrage over the rough hand tactics used by the council officers during a stray dog round-up operation.
In one of the videos, the group of uniformed council officers can be seen beating the old man, who was trying to protect his dogs from being captured, with dog catching iron rods.
In a public post, a Facebook user detailed an account of the incident along with the videos and pictures.
According to the user, the incident occurred along Jalan 18/17 Taman Kanagapuram, Petaling Jaya around 9pm last night.
"The officer was threatening and used an iron rod to hit the old man when he tried to block them from capturing and injuring his dogs," she wrote.
"I stepped out of my car to stop them from harassing him further and told them this is not the right way to carry out their duty and the officers responded 'kita government , memang begini kita buat kerja'. 'Report polis la''.
"The uncle mentioned that the officers didn't explain their intention and failed to show any reports, or official ID and immediately started attacking him," she added.
The Facebook user further claimed that team of officers forced the situation to escalate to violence and the old man was left with injuries to his jaw, cheek and a cut on his wrist.
She added that after explaining the situation to the uncle, he handed three of his dogs, including a puppy to the officers.
The user claimed to have known the elderly man and his dogs for years and described them as harmless and well-cared for.
The incident has sparked outrage among netizens, who have expressed their disgust at the officers' actions and called for justice for the man and his dogs.
The New Straits Times has reached out to MBPJ for comments on the issue.
A spokesperson requested for the videos and photographs to be shared with him without commenting further.
