Man dies in fatal crash on Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu expressway

GEORGE TOWN: A man died when the car he was driving hit the back of a lorry, causing him to be pinned to his seat, in an accident at Km1.5 of the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway here early this morning.

The victim, identified as S. Vitra Stevan, 44, died at the scene in the 4.19am incident.

Jalan Perak Fire and Rescue station operation officer Israhanafi Ismail said they rushed to the scene after receiving a call about the accident.

"As soon as we arrived, we found the Proton Waja car, driven by the man, had hit the back of the lorry and the victim was stuck in the driver's seat.

"We conducted a 'size up' at the scene and carried out rescue work to remove the trapped victim using special rescue tools before he was successfully extricated at 4.51am," he said today.

Israhanafi said the paramedics who arrived at the scene confirmed the man had died.

His body was then sent to Penang Hospital for a post-mortem.
