PUTRAJAYA: Universiti Tenaga Nasional (Uniten) has opened international academic centres at four Chinese universities, namely Huanghe University, University Electronic Science and Technology China, Sichuan Jinjiang University and Hubei University.
Uniten vice chancellor Profesor Dr Noor Azuan Abu Osman said the centres at the four universities will utilise Uniten's curriculum syllabus beginning September this year.
"This proves that China recognises Uniten's curriculum in fulfilling the needs of the industries and is of international standard. In fact, Uniten's student marketability of 96.8 per cent provided the confidence for the Chinese educational institutions to collaborate further," said Nor Azuan in a statement.
He said Uniten has also opened an offshore office at the People's Republic of China's Education Ministry's Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchange (CSCSE) along with six other world-renowned universities, such as Harvard University, University of Barcelona and National University of Singapore.
"Uniten is the first university in this country to open an offshore office in China's Education Ministry," said Noor Azuan.
He also said 20 memoranda of understanding were signed between Uniten and 20 universities in China on Monday that would involve higher education cooperation between the two countries.
Sichuan Jinjiang University president Prof Yan Shijing said China is committed in ensuring that the academic relationship between Uniten and China will continue on a large scale.
China will start to send its students to continue their studies at the pre-graduate and post-graduate level in Uniten in the near future.
This is part of the measure to strengthen the bilateral relationship of the two countries.
This is an extension of the meeting between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim with Chinese President Xi Jinping Prime Minister Li Qiang in Beijing recently which outlined the cooperation of the two countries in various fields including academia.
