Malay Proclamation: Hadi explains support for Dr M [NSTTV]

PETALING JAYA: Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang attempted to justify his decision to work with his former rival Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, citing Malay-Muslim unity.

In a Facebook post yesterday, he said the party supported Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's efforts to bring together Malay leaders, scholars, political parties and non-governmental organisations.

At the same time, he urged supporters to ignore those who were 'drowning in their ambitions' which caused them 'attack' successful Malay politicians, academics and economists.

"This group conspire with the non-Muslims and non-Malays, many of whom were the 'givers and takers' of bribes," he said in his Facebook post today.

He said the group was also known to be in cahoots with those who were extreme against Islam and the Malay community, and the media that carried "the Devil's voice" to influence the Malays.

Last week, a political aide to Dr Mahathir, Abu Bakar Yahya posted several photos of Pas leaders, including Hadi, signing the Malay Proclamation document.

Abu Bakar wrote: "Led by Hadi, several Pas leaders have signed the document to support the Malay Proclamation in Dr Mahathir's presence."

This was not the first time Hadi tried to link non-Muslims and non-Malays to corruption.

In August last year, he allegedly said that choosing a leader who lacked integrity and practices corruption was a form of treachery that would destroy the country and the world.

He also allegedly said that non-Muslims and non-Bumiputeras were the "roots of corruption" in the country.
