KUBANG PASU: The Malaysia Consultative Council of Islamic Organisations (Mapim) have urged Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to reject any attempts to normalise diplomatic relations with Israel.
It's president Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid said that Israel are currently putting political pressure on Malaysia and other countries to recognise it's legitimacy as a sovereign state.
He said giving into such pressure would be disastrous towards the struggle of liberating the Palestinians from Israeli cruelty.
"There are currently forces that are pressuring Malaysia to normalise relations with Israel. Mapim are monitoring the situation very closely.
"I need to stress all Muslim nations to never promote diplomatic ties with Israel, they are currently plotting to promote itself in Southeast Asia, with Malaysia and Indonesia being two countries it is highly interested in.
"Anwar must stood firm and reject any attempts from Israel to pressure us into holding diplomatic ties with them," he said after launching the Save Al-Aqsa Fund programme at Politeknik Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah in Jitra here yesterday.
Also present was Polimas director Rosli Idris.
Azmi also stressed that the two-state solution for the Palestine-Israel conflict will always remain unrealistic as Israel are unwilling to accept any form of compromise.
He said Malaysia must spearhead the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in rejecting the execution of the proposed "Deal of the Century" - a deal that would recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital.
"Why should we, as a Muslim Ummah, compromise on this? Israel won't compromise, they only want full control of the territory and Jerusalem.
"Malaysia must take charge and urge other Muslim nations to reject the Deal of the Century proposed by the United States. We must never compromise.
The Deal of the Century was a treaty proposed by former United States President Donald Trump on Jan 28, 2020.
The treaty involved the establishment of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
The plan also involved the establishment of a Palestinian state with it's capital in Abu Dis, a West Bank village just east of the municipal borders of Jerusalem.
On the same day the treaty was proposed, the Prime Minister's Office in a statement said that Malaysia had carefully studied the proposed peace deal and found it "utterly unacceptable".
On Dec 19, Anwar has pledge that Malaysia will remain steadfast in the fight to end the suffering of Palestinians.
He reportedly said his administration would continue supporting the just cause for Palestinians and condemn all sorts of harassment and attempt to dispose of the rights of the Palestinians.
Meanwhile, Rosli promised that Polimas as an academic institution would stood firm on its stance to educate young Malaysians about the importance of understanding the Palestine-Israel conflict.
"We will do our best in educating the youth, raising awareness about the importance that we as Muslims must stand together with our fellow Muslim brothers and sisters in Palestine.
"I believe that this fund launched today is proof that Malaysians are actively donating and expressing their solidarity with the Palestinian cause. We are proud to be a part of this," he added.
