CAIRO: The Arab-Islamic Extraordinary Summit in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, yesterday called for all United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and UN Security Council (UNSC) resolutions against Israel be carried out immediately.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said, among the resolutions, was the need to end the violence and for a ceasefire in the Gaza Stip to allow for humanitarian aid.
He said he had also urged the international community to suspend Israel's membership in the UN and all its entities.
Anwar said such an action had a precedent, citing the action taken against South Africa for continuing it Apartheid policy.
"I said yesterday in my speech in Riyadh that Israel's actions (the attacks in Gaza and in Lebanon) was, by far, worse than what happened in South Africa, but Israel is still allowed to function as a member nation in the UN.
"Actually, many proposals were agreed upon during the Arab-Islamic Extraordinary Summit in Riyadh. There were quite strict and tough matters regarding Israel, but we avoided using the term 'expulsion of Israel from the UN' because we feel they should be given space to negotiate.
"The main issue is not expulsion, but that we want them to stop the attacks against Gaza and Lebanon," he told reporters today, his last day in Egypt.
Present were Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and International Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz.
Anwar said the resolution also called for all countries to bar exports, including that of arms, to Israel.
He said all countries should also classify the illegal colonisation of Palestinian lands by Israel a terrorist action, and boycott all Israeli products coming from occupied Palestine.
"We are also mobilising support for Palestine to be admitted as a full UN member state," he said.
