KUANTAN: Recent allegations that Fraser's Hill in Raub has become a ghost town does not portray the actual situation, said the state government.
State Unity, Tourism and Culture Committee chairman Leong Yu Man said a social media post of a building at the colonial-era hill station was not even open to travellers.
"Whatever was portrayed on social media does not speak the truth about the actual scenario. The building is not open for accomodation and does not accept visitors.
"There are five hotels in Fraser's Hill and all are open to travellers," she said when replying to a supplementary question by Tengku Zulpuri Shah Raja Puji (DAP-Raub) on recent viral reports that some accommodations were said to be haunted.
Last month, a TikTok user shared an 18-second video about her holiday experience at Fraser's Hill and said the hotel, which she had booked online, was a far cry from the description provided by the owner. Netizens echoed her sentiments, claiming the situation at the hill station was "poor".
Earlier, Leong told the state assembly that the Pahang government had always given focused on Fraser's Hill as the hill station was among the top tourist destinations in the state.
Fraser's Hill, a popular birding destination in Malaysia, had its own identity and followers, especially nature lovers, she said.
"Its uniqueness is the extensive biodiversity, It is home to various species of wild birds. This year, the 36th edition of the Fraser's Hill International Bird Race will be held," she said when replying to a written question from Tengku Zulpuri on efforts to boost the tourism sector at Fraser's Hill.
