Couple involved in accident were supposed to be engaged on Friday

DUNGUN: A mother who was wondering why she was feeling restless later found out that she felt that way because her daughter was seriously injured and her daughter's fiance died in an accident at Kilometre 105 along the Jalan Kuala Terengganu-Kuantan stretch near Kerteh on Saturday.

"No wonder I felt off, and odd, it's because they were about to become victims of an accident," said Salmah Idrus, 53.

In the accident that happened at around 11pm on Saturday, her daughter's fiance Muhammad Alif Hafizuddin, 24, who hailed from Bukit Kuang in Kemaman died while her daughter Nuralifah Ilyana Azman was left seriously injured and fighting for life.

Salmah, said she is very sad and upset as Nuralifah's engagement to Muhammad Alif was supposed to take place at her home in Kampung Seberang Pintasan in Dungun on Friday.

"Muhammad Alif came over to the house at around noon on Saturday to bring Nuralifah to buy engagement presents and gifts and to pick up some other things that had already been bought and kept at his house in Kemaman.

"Throughout the two hours or so, I felt odd that Muhammad Alif was staring blankly into empty space and did not speak much, but I brushed it off off," said Salmah.

She said Muhammad Alif had come over to the house a few times and he used to joke around and chit-chat with her family, and he would also bring food for everyone.

"Usually he would come and sit down with us to drink or have a meal outside the house, but on Saturday he came in and ate in the kitchen.

"Who would have thought or forseen that such behaviour that was different was actually a sign that he would leave us forever," she said.

Salmah said that when the accident took place, Muhammad Alif was sending Nuralifah back to Dungun.

"That night I felt uneasy and restless, and I was in shock when I found out later on that they were involved in an accident at around 1am.

"My husband only just found out what had happened because at the time he was out at sea catching fish," she said.

Salmah said that she was informed that Nuralifah had to be operated on at Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah in Kuala Terengganu.

"I cannot bear to even look at all the things in the house for their engagement because I end up crying thinking about what happened," she said.
