LANGKAWI: The International Trade and Industry Ministry today launched Malaysia Aerospace Centre of Excellence (MyAERO Centre) and the AS9100 Certification by SIRIM QAS International to propel the country's aerospace ecosystem development.
Its deputy minister Liew Chin Tong said the initiatives were aimed to attract high-quality investments in Malaysian aerospace industry while strengthening local supply chain as well as developing high-skilled talents.
"Development of a conducive ecosystem is vital in attracting more high-quality aerospace investments to Malaysia and to spur domestic direct investment.
"Apart from strengthening the local supply chain, a strategic implementation plan is required to ensure high-skilled talent to be continuously developed based on the recent industry needs.
"In order to ensure Malaysia's local supply chain remains competitive at the global level, the industry requires holistic transformation to become more digitalised," he said.
Liew was speaking at the launching ceremony held in conjunction with the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace exhibition 2023 (Lima '23) at Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre here.
He said the MyAero Centre established under National Aerospace Industry Corporation Malaysia (NAICO Malaysia) – the ministry's newly-stablished agency, will facilitate industry collaborations in aerospace talent development, supply chain and Research & Technology (R&T).
He said the centre would become the catalyst to further enhance Malaysia's competencies at the global level.
"MyAERO Centre will be recognised as a platform to promote strategic partnership between local parties and global players and relevant organisations where partners will be able to explore opportunities to improve market access and new business areas.
"Realising the importance of digital technology, the centre will also promotes initiatives related to digital transformation and advancement for the aerospace community," he said.
Liew also announced that Malaysia's SIRIM QAS has been accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) as a Certification Body for the Aerospace QMS Scheme.
"With the accreditation, SIRIM QAS will be able to assist local players to accelerate their AS9100 certification processes.
"This initiative is timely for SIRIM QAS in responding to the rapid expansion of Malaysia aerospace industry ecosystem," he added.
He later presented the AS9100 certification to an aerospace design and analysis company Singularity Aerotech Asia Sdn Bhd (SAT Asia).
"This certification demonstrates the capability of local aerospace companies to consistently meet the requirements of their customers and regulatory bodies and continuously improve their processes," he said.
Liew added that the ministry would continue to support other segment of the aerospace industry such as the development of locally assemble seaplane and commercial drones for various operations that will not only reduce the importation of aerospace related equipment but to expand aerospace exports other than parts and components for commercial aircraft.
"MITI also aims that Malaysia will venture into aerospace grade material production for global market as well as becoming a critical supplier for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF)," he said.
During the event, Liew also witnessed nine exchange of documents involving MITI agencies, industry players and aerospace cluster developer focusing on TVET & professional development, R&T, local supply chain enhancement, aerospace quality certification, SAF and seaplane ecosystem development.
