Investigation papers opened on woman who insulted two cops

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have opened two investigation papers in relation to viral videos of a woman insulting two policemen at a restaurant in Taman Sri Gombak, Batu Caves, on Thursday.

Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the suspect, who admitted to being a civil servant, was identified based on the videos and had been called to the Criminal Investigation Department of the Gombak police headquarters for further investigation.

He said checks showed that there were two videos that went viral on social media related to the incident.

"Police have opened two investigation papers. The first was by a complainant under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation while the second was based on report by a policeman under Section 186 of the Penal Code and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 for preventing a public servant from carrying out their duties and using rude, disgraceful or insulting words," he said in a statement.

Hussein said in the 12pm incident, the woman had hurled unpleasant remarks at the complainant for being loud and making noises at a neighbour's house.

The suspect, he said, had introduced herself as a civil servant and said she wanted to arrest the complainant.

"The suspect threatened to hit the complainant and also scolded everyone at the site. She made fun of junior police personnel at the scene and did not cooperate when asked to show her authorisation card.

"We advise the public not to continue broadcasting the video and make comments that may threaten public order or interfere with the investigation process," he said.

Yesterday, the New Straits Times reported that a woman, suspected to be a policewoman, had sparked outrage after a video of her hurling insulting remarks at policemen went viral.

In the incident, believed to have occurred in Gombak, the woman was seen raising her voice and asserting that the policemen were unworthy of reprimanding her due to their lower ranks.
