Fahmi: Charges against Sanusi nothing to do with government

KUALA LUMPUR: The statement made by caretaker Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor can trigger disloyalty towards any of the Rulers, said Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil.

Therefore, he said, the charges against Sanusi had nothing to do with the government.

Fahmi said this in a Facebook post today in response to Sanusi's claims that the "hasty" move to charge him in court over alleged seditious statements was politically motivated.

Sanusi said the reason his case was rushed was to jeopardise his chances in the upcoming state elections.

The Perikatan Nasional election director yesterday pleaded not guilty to two counts of uttering seditious remarks that could incite disloyalty towards the Rulers.

The offence falls under Section 4(1)(a) of the Sedition Act which carries a maximum of three years imprisonment or an RM5,000 fine or both.
