KUCHING: Authorities have identified the nine crew of MV Tung Sung that went missing yesterday after the cargo ship sank and overturned in the Subuyau waters.
Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Sarawak director, Maritime First Admiral Zin Azman Md Yunus said the missing crew comprised four Malaysians, four Myanmar nationals and one Indonesian citizen. They were between 20 and 52 years old.
"The four locals are known as Chieng Siew Ngiek, Wong Hua Wu, Maxwell Billy Stimba, and Stimba Chuit.
"The four Myanmar nationals are That Min July, Ye Lin Htet, Hla Win Tun and Tun Lin Oo and Indonesian Lido Ali Purwanto," he said.
Zin Azman said the search and rescue operation of the nine crew continued today, starting at 8am, with the search focusing around Pulau Burung to Tanjung Po.
The incident came to the MMEA's attention after receiving a distress call from the cargo ship's owner.
At the time of the incident, the vessel carried a load of gravel from Kuching to Sarikei.
Zin Azman is scheduled to hold a press conference regarding the search and rescue operation at the Sebuyau public jetty, at 2pm today.
