KUALA LUMPUR: Caretaker Selangor menteri besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari today announced the cancellation of the proposed Petaling Jaya Dispersal Link (PJD Link) elevated highway project.
The project, which was estimated to cost more than RM2 billion, was approved in April last year by the previous federal government helmed by former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob
Amirudin had earlier this month said that the project had only been given a conditional approval.
He had said that should it fail to meet requirements, it would share the same fate as the proposed Kinrara-Damansara Expressway (Kidex), which was shelved in 2015.
"This administration's principle is that development in Selangor should have a balance in terms of sustainability, economic progress, and not cause harm to residents," he said in a statement today.
He said that based on the Social Impact Assessment Report, his administration "was not satisfied with the plan presented as it does not fulfil the conditions" previously laid down by the state.
"As such, the Selangor government does not wish to continue with this proposal and has decided to cancel the construction of PJD Link," he added.
The 14.9-kilometre expressway was supposed to connect the Damansara–NKVE interchange of the New Klang Valley Expressway to Bandar Kinrara, and aimed to reduce traveling time between Damansara and Kinrara by some 25 per cent.
