KUALA LUMPUR: Prime minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reiterated his commitment to end hardcore poverty by this year.
"There are those who are not able to buy milk for their babies and school uniforms for their kids.
"Do you think I could sleep peacefully and to think that they are neglected. No!"
He said he will instruct all the ministries and government departments to source every available fund to help the cause.
"(The government is) short of RM100 million, RM200 million? I don't care!
"I will instruct all ministries and government departments to solve and put an end towards hardcore poor in 2023. That's my promise," he said in his speech at the Ceramah Jelajah Perpaduan in Ampang Jaya here last night.
Speaking further, Anwar said it is his duty to help the people ever since he came to power and that ending hardcore poverty is his number one priority.
"People have asked me, what are Anwar's priorities for the past eight months?"
"Don't tell me to build the longest bridge or the tallest skyscrapers.
"My priorities are to help solve the issues of the people, starting with poverty."
Anwar earlier attended the Ceramah Jelajah Perpaduan in Taman Ukay Perdan and spoke to about 3,000 people.
Also present were Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil, Pakatan Harapan's Lembah Jaya state seat candidate Syed Ahmad Syed Abdul Rahman Alhadad or Altimet and Bukit Antarabangsa state seat candidate Mohd Kamri Kamaruddin.
