SEREMBAN: DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke said it is too early to jump to conclusions with the voter turnout when there were still five hours left for the polling process.
The Transport Minister and Seremban member of parliament said this when commenting about the low voter turnout in states such as Kelantan early in the morning.
However, Loke is upbeat that the situation will improve and that more people will vote later in the day.
"I believe the people are following the advisory (by the Election Commission on what time they should go out and vote to ensure a smooth and fast voting process).
"For example, I purposely came out in the afternoon because I know that I do not have to queue for a long time.
"And in less than five minutes, I have completed my responsibility as a voter," he told reporters after casting his ballot for the Mambau state seat at SJKC Sin Hua here today.
He hoped more people would vote throughout the day.
"Every state has its own factors that affect and influence the percentage of voter turnout.
"Having said that, I hope the voter turnout will reach more than 70 per cent in Negri Sembilan.
"I believe that by noon today, almost half of the 70 per cent of voters would have fulfilled their responsibility in Negri Sembilan," he said.
Loke is defending his Chennah state seat in the polls.
Chennah is one of the four constituencies in the Jelebu parliamentary constituency, which is located about 45km away from here.
