Chow sworn in as Penang CM for second term

GEORGE TOWN: Penang Pakatan Harapan chairman Chow Kon Yeow has been sworn-in as the state's fifth Chief Minister for the second term at Seri Mutiara, which is the Yang di-Pertua Negeri's residence here, today.

Chow, 65, took the oath at about 9.35am in front of Penang Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak.

Ahmad Fuzi then handed the letter of appointment to Chow.

Chow was joined by his wife Tan Lean Kee.

Also present was DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng, among others.

Chow, while taking the oath, vowed he would fulfil his duties in the position as Chief Minister with the intention that all his efforts would reflect his loyalty to Penang.

He emphasised his commitment to preserve, protect, and defend the state's constitution.

"I solemnly swear that I will not disclose to anyone, either directly or indirectly, any matter that comes to my attention or becomes known to me as the head of the state, except when required to fulfil my responsibilities as Chief Minister," he stated.

Pakatan Harapan retained power in Penang with its ally, Barisan Nasional, after they won 29 of the 40 seat's contested.

The coalition will form the new state government with a two-third majority.

Chow, when approached while leaving Seri Mutiara, wound down the car window and said he was happy.

"Happy, happy," he said before leaving.

Chow had said that the new state executive council member (exco) line-up would be decided after discussions between the PH-BN coalition.
