KUALA LUMPUR: At least 10 vehicles were badly damaged when the beam structure on the roof of a five-storey commercial building in Jalan Kuchai Lama, here collapsed last night.
The incident occurred at about 10.40pm involving Block A of the Sri Desa Kuchai Building at the Kuchai Entreprenuers Park, here.
Brickfields district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Amihizam Abdul Shukor said the Fire and Rescue Department's preliminary inspection found there were no victims involved in the incident.
"As soon as the public was informed, the police took measures to surround and close the entire area to avoid any untoward incident.
"At the same time, the fire department conducted an inspection on each floor and found that there were no victims involved," he said during a press conference at the scene of the incident today/
Amihizam said the police and fire department were taking steps to close the building from any activity until the relevant authorities confirm that the building is completely safe.
"I ask the public to stay away from the location of this incident and not make any speculations.
"Currently the authorities are conducting an investigation to identify the true cause of the incident considering that it happened when the weather was good and there was no rain," he said.
Two officers and 10 members of the Brickfields police as well as two officers and 17 members of the fire department, in addition to members of the Malaysian Civil Defense Force (APM) and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) were involved in the follow-up operation.
