Education Ministry will release guidelines on bullying cases: Fadhlina

NILAI: The Education Ministry will release specific guidelines related to bullying in schools as a measure to deal with the immoral act.

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the ministry would not compromise with any bullying behaviour or activities because schools should be the safest place for every student.

"We do not compromise when it comes to bullying cases, (so) a guideline (regarding bullying) will be released soon which will touch on several matters including cyberbullying.

"The fact is we cannot accept bullying that is being done by our children at school," she said when officiating the Madani Education Seminar 2023 themed 'Memartabatkan Karamah Insaniah dan Membangun Generasi Madani' at the Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) here today.

Meanwhile, Fadhlina said the ministry also expressed its commitment to address the issue of sexual and racial crimes in schools.

"We can't ignore this (sexual and racial crimes)... racism happens in schools even if it occurs once a year or every time before the election," he said.

She also stressed that the Education Ministry would not exclude teachers' unions as a channel to convey the ministry's policies and information to the grassroots level.

Fadhlina said their involvement was crucial because union members and teachers were executors and advocators in determining the success of a new national education policy.

"Our priority is to ensure that communication will reach (target group) and the Congress of Unions of Teachers in the Malaysian Education Service will always welcome the ministry's agenda," she said.
