Elmina air crash report: Weather conditions normal prior to disaster

KUALA LUMPUR: The preliminary report on the Elmina air tragedy suggested that there was nothing unusual with the weather when the Beechcraft Model 390 (Premier 1) aircraft crashed on Aug 17.

The meteorological report said visibility stood at more than 10 kilometers (km) and the wind was at 9.26 km per hour.

"The incident happened during the daytime.

"The weather was fine, with visibility reported as more than 10 kilometres, and wind was variable (VRB) at 05 knots," it said.

The reports also suggested that there were not abnormalities with the plane's navigational aid and communications channel prior to the crash.

It also found that the plane had a valid Certificate of Airworthiness, leaving the authorities to conclude that the aircraft had been maintained in compliance with regulations.

The aircraft was manufactured in 2004, and was issued a Standard Airworthiness Certificate with the Federal Aviation Administration on May 10, 2023.

The report also indicated that the plane's Certificate of Airworthiness would only expire on April 17, 2024.

On Aug 17, 10 people were killed when a private jet, which was flying from Langkawi to Subang, crashed on the Guthrie Expressway at Bandar Elmina, moments before landing.
