Missing for 3 days, man found dead in ditch

BATU PAHAT: The mystery surrounding the disappearance of a man for the past three days has been tragically solved with the discovery of his body in a near-decomposed state along with a motorcycle in a ditch at Taman Wira Jaya near Parit Lapis Sempadan, here, this morning.

The body of Nazrul Ajis, 21, was found by a resident, Suffiyan Mohamad, 27, as he was passing through the area and noticed a floating and moving object.

According to his twin brother, Fazrul, Nazrul left home last Thursday and could not be reached since.

"For three days, we searched everywhere, and messages were not delivered on WhatsApp. We even contacted friends to inquire about his whereabouts, but unfortunately, no one had any information.

"Until around 11.45am today, we received a call about the discovery of his body along with the motorcycle in the ditch," he said when met at the scene.

Another brother of the victim, Hidayat, 24, said that Nazrul frequently suffered from seizures.

"He went out riding my motorcycle on Thursday, and we had no idea where he went. We searched for him but to no avail.

"We were worried that something might have happened to him, until we received this heartbreaking news," he said.

Meanwhile, Sufiyyan said that he was on his way home from Rengit when he spotted the floating object.

"I immediately stopped my car and saw the body badly decomposed and floating. Initially, I thought someone had fallen and needed help.

"As I got closer, I realised it was a body, and there was also a monitor lizard nearby, feeding on it.

"I immediately contacted the police to report the incident. During the process of retrieving the body, the fire department also found a Yamaha LC motorcycle in the ditch.

Meanwhile, the Batu Pahat District police chief assistant commissioner Ismail Dollah, said that they received a call from the public at 11.30am regarding the discovery of the body.

He said the victim was found fully clothed and lying on his back.

"A team of firefighters and rescuers, led by Ayer Hitam Fire Station chief Mohd Shamin Mohd Salikin, arrived at the scene to help remove the deceased from the ditch.

"The fire department also successfully retrieved a motorcycle and a motorcycle helmet found near the deceased in the ditch.

"Based on the condition of the body, it is believed that the victim had been deceased for more than a day," he said.
