Aali the Parrot, missing for four days, reunited with owner

LANGKAWI: An Indian ringneck parrot named 'Aali', which went missing for four days, was found safe and has now been reunited with its owner last night.

Aali, a one-year-old parrot, went missing at 6pm last Sunday after participating in an exhibition during the 'Sepakat Anak Pulau' Carnival at the Langkawi Sports Complex.

Its owner, Nur Hamzani Hamzah, 38, said she was grateful as the parrot, which she had bought from a seller in Penang and cared for over the past year, was found at 8pm last night.

"After Aali slipped from my grip and flew toward a tall tree that Sunday afternoon, I tried to console myself and accept the reality that there was little hope of getting him back.

"Out of the blue, I received a phone call last night from a workshop owner in Kampung Kuah, saying Aali had been found in a container at his workshop," she said when met here today.

Hamzani shared that since the parrot went missing, she had tried every possible method to locate it, including posting updates on social media and searching the area with the help of friends.

"I was even more worried because Aali still had a 0.3-metre chain attached to its leg when it escaped. This posed a high risk of the chain getting caught on branches, which could have led to its death.

"The incident happened just a week after I renewed its maintenance permit issued by the Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan)," she said.

Hamzani, who also runs a Cat Hotel & Spa here, said the distance between the last known location where Aali went missing and where it was eventually found was about 2.6 kilometres.
