Works Ministry to team with Saudi, Kazakh govts on road safety and maintenance initiatives

KUALA LUMPUR: Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi has discussed better highway infrastructure, safety, and maintenance plans with Saudi Arabia's Transport and Road Affairs Deputy Minister, TYT Badr Bin Abdullah Al-Dulami and Kazakhstan's Transport Minister, TYT Marat Karabayev.

In a statement, Nanta said that he had met both delegations during the 27th World Road Congress in 2023, organised by the Permanent International Association of Road Congresses (PIARC) in Prague.

In the meeting with the Saudi Arabia delegation, he is determined to further strengthen strategic cooperation in the aspects of road safety and maintenance in both countries.

"I believe there is much that Malaysia can learn from Saudi Arabia in this regard, and vice versa.

"Therefore, both parties agree to continue to communicate further to explore the space and opportunities that can be utilised for mutual benefit."

Nanta said that the Saudi Arabian delegation has expressed interest in studying the efforts of the Malaysian government regarding road safety initiatives, particularly through the MYJalan campaign.

Meanwhile, the Kazakhstan delegation, TYT Marat, has voiced his interest in bringing in Malaysia's expertise in building, developing and managing port infrastructure in the republic.

"This serves as proof of Malaysia's expertise in the field of infrastructure construction, attracting external attention.

"I sincerely hope that this cooperation can be realised, which will open up investment opportunities for both countries."

The Works Minister said he will bring the proposal for discussion at the ministry and relevant agency levels before it is considered at the cabinet level.
