Water supply shutdown: Full recovery by Thursday

KUALA LUMPUR: The recovery of water supply due to the temporary shutdown at the Sungai Selangor Phase 1, Phase 2, Phase 3 and Rantau Panjang Water Treatment Plants (WTPs) following odour pollution has reached 24.5 per cent.

Air Selangor in a statement said that as of 7pm today, all four of the water treatment plants have fully commenced operation.

"Operations of all four WTP have fully commenced and clean and safe treated water supply has been distributed in stages to consumers.

"As of 7pm, the recovery status of the water supply in the affected areas has reached 24.5 per cent and it is still expected to fully recover at 12 am, this Thursday."

It also advised consumers who have and will receive their water supply to let the tap flow until the water is clear before using.

"Air Selangor hopes that consumers who have received water supply will use water prudently to ensure that the recovery process in the affected areas runs smoothly," it added.

Meanwhile, on the progress of asset upgrading, maintenance and replacement works in Sungai Langat Water Treatment Plant, Air Selangor said that work is still ongoing despite delays on site where it will be expected to finish at 9pm, tonight.

Air Selangor added that the delay in work implementation will not affect the full water supply recovery to the affected consumers in the Petaling, Kuala Lumpur, Hulu Langat regions.

"Water supply will be distributed in stages to the consumers once the water supply distribution system has been stabilised.

"The duration of the water supply recovery in the affected areas will vary depending on the location and distance of consumers' premises and is still expected to fully recover at 12 pm, Thursday."
