KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today announced that the government will provide a total of RM2.47 billion to implement the People's Housing Project (PPR).
He said a special financing guarantee of RM1 billion will encourage developers to restore abandoned projects that have been identified.
"RM546 million will be provided to continue 36 PPR including one new project in Kluang, Johor.
"Fifteen PPRs are expected to be completed next year to benefit 5,100 new residents," he said.
Anwar, who is also finance minister, added that an additional RM358 million will be allocated to build another 14 Rumah Mesra Rakyat (RMR) projects, which will provide 3,500 housing units.
"The government has also allocated RM460 million to provide assistance to approximately 65 thousand poor people in the countryside to build new or repair dilapidated houses.
"Another RM100 million to maintain low and medium-cost stratified public and private housing throughout the country, including repairing water tanks, roofs, and wiring systems as well as installing closed-circuit cameras," he said when tabling the 2024 Budget in Dewan Rakyat today.
