KUALA LUMPUR: The government does not undertake the implementation of electric vehicle (EV) charging station projects.
In a written reply, Natural Resources, Environment, and Climate Change Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad stated that the government neither provides allocations nor grants exclusive rights to any company for the construction of EV charging stations.
"The construction of EV charging stations is industry-driven and led entirely by the private sector. This includes companies engaged in business activities and other services related to the EV ecosystem," he said.
It has been reported that Malaysia aims to provide up to 4,000 EV charging points this year (Source). The government also has a target of achieving 10,000 EV charging stations by 2025.
