KUALA LUMPUR: Hui Ying, the sister of former finance minister Lim Guan Eng, has been moved from holding the Deputy Education Minister portfolio in Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's cabinet to that of Deputy Finance Minister.
The 60-year old is a member of parliament for Tanjong and former Penang Dap secretary.
Her appointment as deputy finance minister comes two years after her brother held the Finance Minister's post in the last Pakatan Harapan (PH) administration which came into power after the 2018 Malaysian general election.
The then Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad announced Guan Eng's appointment as the Minister of Finance succeeding former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak before Barisan Nasional (BN) was ousted.
Guan Eng held on to the position until 2020 and later revealed that Dr Mahathir had threatened to sack him as finance minister for pursuing three "reform" initiatives during Pakatan Harapan's maiden federal administration from 2018 to 2020.
