KUALA PILAH: Residents in Kampung Kepis have been shaken by a series of disturbances over the past 10 days, with reports of mysterious knocking at some of the homes.
The unsettling events prompted some to claim sightings of a shadowy entity resembling a person.
Haslinda Hassim, 54, recounted her eerie encounter, stating that she observed the shadowy figure outside her home around 9.40pm, before it vanished into the darkness.
"Before that, my eldest child, who is 17, was outside. I was with another one of my children in the house. Not long after that, my eldest child told me to secure all doors and windows due to disruptions at a nearby house.
"Then my child came back with a friend and asked to open the kitchen door. Suddenly, we heard a sound... like something had dropped or fell outside the house," said Haslinda when met at her house.
She added that she then spotted the shadowy entity that appeared as though it was crawling.
"Initially, I thought that it was an illusion, that my eyes were playing tricks on me. Then when I saw it again, it looked right at me, it got up and ran towards the main road and disappeared," she said.
Since the incident, she said her home had been disturbed four times with the last one at 2.30am. The last disturbance, she said was accompanied with scratching noises on the wall as if something was trying to pry open one of the windows.
Another resident, Mariam Johit, 67, also reported similar encounters.
Johit's family has experienced five disturbances, the latest occurring around 9pm, when her children spotted the shadowy figure lurking outside their house.
Despite the commotion, neighbours and family members were unable to locate or identify anything suspicious.
"This is the fifth time our home has been disturbed. Last night, when I was at home with my two children and grandchild at around 9pm, we heard front gate of the house being shaken.
"My daughter, Noreennor Mohd Noor, 38, looked through the curtains and saw the shadowy entity lurking outside the house.
"She then heard footsteps of someone running before it disappeared. In fact, family members, relatives and other local folk who had surrounded our house did not find nor able to see or spot anything," she said.
Meanwhile, the chairman for the Kampung Kepis Hilir committee on development and safety, Mohmmad Sah Sulaiman urged for immediate resolution, citing the fear and chaos that has disrupted the daily lives of residents.
"This disturbance has been going on for more than a week now and it has caused fear and chaos among the local folk, so much so some of them are afraid to go to the toilet in their own homes." he said.
