JOHOR BARU: A Sri Gading police station sergeant major, who was captured on video assaulting a man, has been transferred with immediate effect.
Johor police chief, Commissioner Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat, said the transfer is a temporary measure pending a full investigation.
He said the officer has been transferred to a unit which does not require him to deal with members of the public.
"This is a temporary measure we have taken. Further action will be taken against him if investigations prove that he was involved," he said when contacted today.
The New Straits Times yesterday reported that Johor police were investigating allegations that a police officer had physically assaulted a man in public.
The short video clip, which went viral on social media, showed a man pulling another man's hair and slapping him repeatedly while berating him.
Police also appealed those with information to facilitate investigation to come forward.
