Storm mobilised for Cameron Highlands landslide SAR

CAMERON HIGHLANDS: Storm or Special Tactical Operation and Rescue Team have been called in to help in the Blue Valley landslide search and rescue (SAR) operation, where four are feared to be buried following the 2.51am incident.

One of the victims' remains, a man, was uncovered by fire and rescue officers at about 6.27am and another four, including a woman, are still missing.

Pahang Fire and Rescue Director, Datuk Ir TS Dr Wan Mohammad Zaidi Wan Isa said Storm personnel from Perak, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, and the K9 Detection Unit, police and Civil Defence have also been roped in to help in the SAR.

He said firemen from the Cameron Highlands Fire and Rescue Station rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call from the public.

"Nine personnel quickly moved to the scene and had to trek three kilometers before arriving at the landslide area. During the inspection at the affected area, rescuers discovered the body of an adult male at 6.27 am," he said.

Wan Mohammad Zaidi said preliminary information showed that there were three more men and a woman still trapped and that three adult males and one woman are still trapped.

"The search and rescue operation is ongoing to locate the rest," he said.

He said prior to the Blue valley incident, the department received another distress call about another landslide at Ulu Sungai Palas at about 9.33pm.

"The incident, which occurred near a four row housing block occurred at about 9.33pm but fortunately, no casualties or property was damaged in the first case.
