CAMERON HIGHLANDS: The landslide at Km48 of Jalan Besar Kampung Raja, near the Blue Valley junction, early yesterday (Jan 6) was triggered by significant rainfall that began on Sunday.
District police chief Superintendent Azri Ramli said some parts of the highlands recorded more than 5mm of rainfall on Sunday.
"The rainfall was around 20mm in total, which is considered heavy. The downpour resulted in soil movement at a hill slope.
"A 100m stretch was covered with earth and other debris, including trees.
"The stretch has been cleared. Both lanes were opened to traffic at noon yesterday," he said today.
The 2.45am landslide yesterday disrupted traffic in both directions, forcing road users to use alternative roads through Sungai Koyan in Lipis or the Tapah road to access Cameron Highlands. No casualties or vehicles or property damage was reported.
