KUALA LUMPUR: Motorists welcomed the announcement that they can renew their driving licence and road tax using the Road Transport Department's (RTD) MyJPJ app, starting Feb 1.
They said the move would save time, reduce congestion of physical transactions at RTD counters and eliminate the need for third-party service providers.
Many motorists, who were tired of the traditional process that often involved long queues and reliance on external services, warmly welcomed the move.
Among them is Ahmad Azfar, who said: "From now on, there is no need to queue (at RTD counters). It is indeed another good news from the RTD.
"In this digital era, everything will be easier. Congratulations to (Transport Minister) Anthony Loke."
Another user, Jaidi Jay said the announcement was long-awaited good news.
"This is what we always wanted. Improvement in the RTD's system. It's not ideal to queue up before dawn to take a number in front of the RTD's offices.
Ignatius Nonis described the move as a good move as motorists no longer need to depend on other apps.
Motorist Hafizuddin Mohamed said:
"I used to dread the long queues and the hassle of renewing my driving licence and road tax.
"With the MyJPJ app, it's a game-changer. No more waiting in line before dawn. It's easy, quick, and right at our fingertips."
They also welcomed the new function "Kongsi LKM" on the app. Starting today (Jan 2) vehicle owners will be able to share their digital road tax with family members, friends or other individuals authorised by the vehicle owner.
User Muhammad Faris Ramli said: "You've already fixed the bug when the app was launched. Good one and keep on improving."
Andrew Chong said: "Thank you, the Madani government. Nice improvement from the previous government."
Earlier today, Transport Minister Anthony Loke told a press conference after his working visit to Selangor Road Transport Department that starting Feb 1, Malaysians can renew their driving licence and road tax using the MyJPJ app.
He said the new function would make it easier for the public to renew their driving licence and road tax digitally, saving time and cost, besides reducing the congestion of physical transactions at RTD counters.
The initiative is only for Malaysian citizens and does not apply to foreign nationals or any pass, long-term permit, MyKAS Card or MyPR Card holders.
He also announced that starting today, vehicle owners can share their digital road tax using the new function "Kongsi LKM" on the app.
