MBJB undergoes digital transformation

JOHOR BARU: Johor Baru City Council (MBJB) upgraded its administrative landscape, adopting a complete digital transformation, including in its parking payment services across its jurisdiction.

Mayor Datuk Mohd Noorazam Osman said the previous parking services app, MBJB Spot V2, has been upgraded to MBJB Spot.

"The physical parking coupons introduced in 2016 will no longer be valid within the MBJB areas, with immediate effect," he said.

The MBJB Spot application provides additional services, which includes locating electric vehicle (EV) charging spots and private parking spaces.

It also offers online payment links such as e-services, property taxes, compound payments, and other online facilities.

In conjunction with the launch of MBJB Spot, the council is offering 50 per cent discount on issued parking offences summons.

Noorazam urged members of the public to take advantage of the discount and settle their outstanding summonses immediately.

Meanwhile, he said, in an effort to elevate its service standards and monitoring capabilities, an Integrated Operations Control Centre (JBIOCC), which is fully operational has been established.

The centre is equipped with 108 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras integrated with 15 artificial intelligence (AI) features, to monitors traffic conditions, disasters, crime, infrastructure, and for enforcement purposes.

The centre has a standalone Smart Integrated Operations Centre (SIOC) within its premises, where immediate action can be taken based on real time updates.

Noorazam said, by April this year, 500 CCTV cameras, five vehicle monitoring systems (VMS), and 10 emergency buttons will be added to the operations centre.

"The control centre has the capability to identify the root cause of issues, and this will allow the council to take proactive measures.

"It's AI-equipped CCTV cameras are able detect anomalies like water leakage on the roads and also identify individuals engaged in vandalism… we now have video evidence too, to share with the police for them to take action," he said.

He added that JBIOCC also aims to mitigate the impact of disasters such as floods for immediate response.

On the flood situation, Noorazam said all units under MBJB have been directed to be on standby in the Greater Johor Baru area, and are well-prepared and equipped.

"We have also instructed maintenance contractors to ensure there are no obstruction in rivers and drains to guarantee smooth water flow during heavy rain.," he said.
